The Cooperativa de Fibras Naturales de Santander is a symbol of the verraquera of Santander. Today Ecofibras is the face of the production, transformation, design and commercialization of handicrafts in fique fiber and is a solid company that has positioned itself in the national and international market, achieving a steady pace to be a generator of employment and sustainable development for the region.

Initially processed fique for the production of coffee and potato sacks, but with the arrival of plastic industry was drastically affected, the farmer left his work of planting and processing, tradition and heritage of their ancestors.

Luisa, another of our artisans, young blood of this region, learned the art from the teachings and customs of her mother, she loves her work, support of mothers heads of household, thanks to her handicrafts she supports her family and lives grateful to God for her humble but happy lifestyle.

Daisy Aparicio, another of the artisans, mother head of household, learned to weave thanks to a neighbor who taught her, as a good apprentice she transmitted her excitement to her sisters and her mother, as an anecdote they were able to pay for her high school studies. She decided not to work for other people but to weave herself and set up her own shop; her economic support revolves around the typical handicrafts of a town that is an obligatory tourist stop for both national and international visitors.

María Espinoza is another of the women fighters of this region, her childhood was developed between planting fique with her father and mother, despite being a very hard process developed the work from scratch, initially in the development of potato and coffee sacks, which left very little profit, they bet to continue the tradition of spinning, since childhood she learned to make the backpack of the region called guane, thanks to work on what she learned with the crafts managed to move his family forward, paid the university studies of her two daughters; Her passion and dedication make her a woman to be admired.
